Fort Worth Genomics Institute

Advancing Healthcare in Fort Worth Through Genetic Medicine

Fort Worth Genomics Institute is a physician-led institution dedicated to advancing healthcare in the Fort Worth area through our expertise in genomics.

Our Mission

Advancing Genetic Medicine in Fort Worth

We’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting individuals with current or potential genetic medical conditions through three initiatives: a clinic for patients with childhood genetic disorders who are aging out of pediatric care; proactive, advanced genomic testing for adults focused on wellness and optimizing their healthcare; and an undiagnosed disease clinic for patients with unexplained or yet undetermined symptoms, using a genomics-first approach.

What We Support

Advocating Awareness and Treatment of Genetic Medical Conditions

Through patient support, genetic testing, and advanced consultations, Fort Worth Genomics Institute helps patients and families better understand genetic medical conditions and take the next step with more clarity.

Initiative One

Support for Children With Genetic Medical Conditions

As medical doctors specializing in genetics, we see children in Fort Worth with complex, genetically based medical conditions they will face throughout their lives. Many receive care through Cook Children’s or other local pediatric care teams, and when they age out of children’s hospital care, they need a supported transition into adult care. Our clinic is focused on helping Fort Worth families navigate that transition and continue receiving the coordinated care they need.

Initiative Two

Genetic Testing for Adults

Do you wonder what your genetic risk is for having a heart attack or a major disease such as diabetes, cancer, or dementia?

There is a test you can take to determine your "polygenic risk score," a number that estimates your genetic likelihood of developing a specific disease or trait by considering the combined effect of many small genetic variations across your genome. The score compares your genetic risk to others in the population by using data from large genetic studies that identify numerous genetic variants linked to the disease or trait in question.

Initiative Three

Consultations for Undiagnosed Disorders

Are you dealing with a medical issue no one can diagnose? Could it be genetic? We offer one-time consultations using our advanced genetic testing tools to get to the root of your issue. We’ll examine options your doctors might not have considered and share our insights.

Patient support and care transition

Patient Support

Helping Patients Transition Into Lifelong Adult Care

These transitions take much more than a clinic visit. Families often need nursing care, social work, and case management support to coordinate therapies, adaptive equipment, specialist appointments, medication refills, home health recertification, and the other ancillary needs that come with complex genetic conditions.

Because we are building a small, personalized clinic rather than operating inside a large institution that can subsidize this support through other departments, philanthropy is essential. These funds help us provide the hands-on coordination families need while promoting genetic research, testing, and the advancement of genetic medicine in Fort Worth.

Understand Your Genetic Risk

There is a test you can take to determine your "polygenic risk score," a number that estimates your genetic likelihood of developing a specific disease or trait by considering the combined effect of many small genetic variations across your genome. The score compares your genetic risk to others in the population by using data from large genetic studies that identify numerous genetic variants linked to the disease or trait in question.

We offer this test through a Polygenic Risk Score DNA kit that you can order and have delivered to your home. After taking the test, simply mail the kit back to us, and you'll receive your results in four weeks.

Using your Polygenic Risk Score and understanding your genetic risks, you can work with us to create a personalized medical plan that includes important lifestyle changes, enabling a more proactive approach to your healthcare and supporting longevity.
